Chapter 2: Trouble at Mondstadt’s Gates

...

It was after walking along the path from ‘the place where the wind begins’ for about an hour.

The grand cathedral of Mondstadt City came into view in the distance.

The sharply angled structures soaring high into the sky made it obvious at a glance that it was a cathedral.

Below it, the huge statue of the Anemo Archon or structures showing Mondstadt’s traditional architecture made me unknowingly let out a sigh of relief.

It felt like the Mondstadt I knew.

The main stage of my villainous acts and the Mondstadt City where I went in and out several times a day to clear daily quests.

In front of Mondstadt’s city gate, there was a large lake named Cider Lake.

There was a bridge to cross that lake, so to enter Mondstadt City, one inevitably had to pass that bridge.

And..,

I was now facing the first obstacle.

I encountered a flock of about a dozen pigeons at the entrance to Mondstadt City.

And chillingly, the first thought that came to mind upon seeing those pigeons was..

“Wow.., that looks f*cking delicious.”

It was the thought that they looked f*cking delicious.

That made sense, since I hadn’t eaten anything since morning and felt like chewing on some meat.

In the world of Genshin Impact, catching pigeons, sparrows, or even pelicans dropped the same ‘fowl’ material.

So, in this world, pigeons were excellent food ingredients.

Looking at the pigeons, I recalled the dish I always made in the game and fed to Lumine, ‘Sweet Madame’.

It was the moment when I became extremely curious about the taste of that dish, which stimulated my imagination about how chicken could taste sweet.

“…Paimon, aren’t you hungry by any chance?”

“I’m super hungry! Why? Are you planning to feed me something delicious for dinner today?”

Yeah, Paimon is very hungry too.

It’s absolutely not because I want to eat, but because I thought it would be rude to let our Teyvat guide starve.

So, I’m definitely not catching pigeons to satisfy my own desires right now.

I recalled the atrocities I always committed in the game.

The memory of gathering the pigeons eating feed on the bridge with Lumine’s elemental burst and turning them into food right away.

I can do it now since I’m Lumine.

For the sake of giving our Paimon a satisfying meal, I have to succeed in that.

Lumine always gathered wind with her left hand.

I imagined converting the elemental energy in my body into wind and releasing it through my left hand.

-Whoosh.

A teal wind wrapped around my body as I slowly raised the output of the Anemo elemental energy.

“Uh, Traveler..?”

I sensed with my body the elemental energy flowing from my heart, traveling through my body, and extending to my left hand.

“…!! F*ck, now!! Swirling Tempest!!”

When the elemental energy reached its peak in an instant, I thought this was the moment and released that energy in a large storm form, spectacularly sweeping the bridge.

As the teal wind raged and transformed into a vortex, covering the entire bridge, the poor pigeons pecking at the feed on the ground were mercilessly killed, caught in that huge storm.

As a result, handfuls of fowl fell to the ground.

What a convenient game.

“Haa..! Traveler, what are you doing..!! Those pigeons are the ones Timmy feeds..!”

What, as if it’s new; it’s something I did every day.

No, now I’ve done it so much that if I don’t farm the fowl on the bridge even for a day, my fingers itch and I can’t stand it; it’s become routine.

Every time I massacred the pigeons, the NPC Timmy, the little boy who fed and took care of those pigeons every day, would scream in horror.

And every time, I would teasingly do an eating show with Sweet Madame right in front of him; that was routine.

Of course, in Lumine’s body.

“Haaak!! My pigeons..!”

In an instant, the cute pigeons that were pecking feed turned into chicken leg-like appearances that made one’s mouth water just looking at them.

Timmy started sobbing in front of what used to be pigeons.

“It’s you again, Traveler..!? I’m telling my mom..!”

“Timmy.”

With an expression full of disgust, glaring at me with tear-filled eyes, I slowly approached Timmy, holding one of the fowl that fell to the ground.

As I got closer, Timmy took a defensive stance, but he was just a small child anyway.

I lightly placed my hand on top of his head and looked down at him.

After making him feel the height difference between us with my body, I swept my golden-tinged hair up with my left hand.

Then, I bit into the fowl in my right hand.

Smiling brightly at Timmy, who was trembling all over, I whispered in his ear.

“Your pigeons were awesome.”

-Thud.

Since falling into this world, my mood had been down, but seeing the scene of Lumine bullying Timmy in reality boosted my tension.

Actually, it was all my doing, but that wasn’t important right now.

While contentedly looking at Timmy slumped on the ground, putting the fowl on the ground into my bag, that’s when it happened.

“Look over there! The Traveler is bullying Timmy again!”

“Huh?”

I turned my head at the shout coming from Mondstadt City’s side.

Some guy, who would have been just a passing extra 1 in the game, was pointing at me.

F*ck, I can eat some fowl; what’s the big deal.

As I irritably turned my gaze to him, he hesitated for a moment and then gathered the surrounding people.

“Traveler! The Traveler is back!!”

“Get out right now, Traveler!”

“Bullying a child, are you even human, Traveler!”

“Do you know how much damage you’ve caused to the shop because of you!?”

Among the unfamiliar faces, there was one person I knew.

Sara from the ‘Good Hunter’ restaurant in Mondstadt City.

In the early days when I just started Genshin Impact, she was a grateful NPC who stably provided me with food.

But in the end, I ruined her request terribly, so she must be one of the people who hate me now.

The quest content was roughly to deliver her food to another NPC in Springvale.

But annoyingly, there was a time limit, so I deliberately waited for an hour and threw the completely cold food to the Springvale NPC.

Of course, in the game, the quest cleared and that was it.

But if this world continued to run even during the time I wasn’t logged in, she probably suffered considerable damage because of me.

No, but f*ck, yeah, Sara, I get it.

But who the hell are you guys.

“Traveler.., m-maybe we should leave for now..?”

Paimon, scared by the pouring criticisms, hid behind my back.

“Waaah, the Traveler.., the Traveler ate my pigeons..”

As Timmy burst into tears in the arms of the extra 1 guy who was inciting me, I swallowed dryly, realizing the seriousness of the situation.

This makes the public opinion a bit unfavorable..

“Um..? It was just a joke. I didn’t do it with malicious intent..”

“No it’s not..! She chewed the fowl in front of me and said ‘Your pigeons were awesome’..!”

“No, that was..,”

The people’s boos got even stronger.

F*ck, but is it okay for Mondstadt’s citizens to treat the Honorary Knight of Favonius like this?

What kind of life have I been living all this time.

“That’s enough.”

Soon, a cold and low voice echoed among them, and everyone fell silent.

Still hidden by the crowd, I couldn’t see who it was, but if they could stop this many people with one word, they must be someone with that much influence.

But the one who pushed through the crowd and revealed his face was not a welcome one to me.

Blue hair and tanned skin.

A man in strange attire with one eye covered by an eyepatch.

“It’s been a while, Traveler. Or should I call you former Honorary Knight?”

“Kaeya..,”

Kaeya, the Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius who rules Mondstadt City.

He is also a free 4-star playable character given early in ‘Genshin Impact’.

I faced him in reality, not on the game screen.
